Cattery News, week of May 9

Good Old Patrick
Today I stopped by the cattery and did the rounds. There were no major fights, and the cats all seem to be getting along fine, with a few exceptions:

Darcy is adjusting nicely in her crate. She tends to get spooked when the door is open and she becomes aware of other nearby cats. Her response is claws-out yelling and fleeing, so be careful if you want to remove her to hold her. I got scratched on the belly today. She may not be ready to come outta there for a long time.

Patrick's fur is getting better with daily brushes and wipey baths, but he seems glum and needs extra love and attention.

Mathilde has been cantankerous these last few days. It helps her a lot to be cuddled and combed, but do it too long and she becomes jealous and lashes out at nearby cats. We hope for a home for Mathilde with someone who has a lot of space and time to help her feel more secure.

Aldo used the litterboxes overnight - yay! He seemed cheerful this morning, and affectionate.

CAT FOOD: the little buggers are boring into more and more bags of the new dry food. We really need to tape up those holes and put the bags outside. Anybody have any solutions?

  1. We had several parties visit the site and meet the felines this week! Some friends of Saving Grace adopted a second cat, and they chose one of our black beauties, Monk. This week also saw the return of two boys, Gremlin and Sebastian, who lived with a small family for 6 months before they had to return them for reasons of financial stress.

  2. A quick word on Patrick: he's usually depressive, probably because he doesn't feel great due to his FIV. He never did self-groom, probably because he lived outside most of his life, and he has recently lost weight. So keep an eye on him, everyone! I've got fragrance-free wipes to use for grooming him now. And let Nelia know if you notice any big changes. Thanks! --mk
